Convincing Your Customers To "Marry" You

Dive into your customers' hearts and make them open their wallets for you

Who the fu*k are you?

… what do you want from me?

… and how do I convince you to marry me?

That's the topic of today's newsletter.

Before you close this email in rage and spam the unsubscribe button - hear us out!

We're not here to talk marriage advice.

Or… sort of

To some degree, you can compare customer acquisition and retention to a marriage.

First - you need to convince someone why they should marry you.

And then - you need to constantly give them love and attention so that they choose to stick with you (unfortunately, this is where most go wrong - both in business and life 😔)

Put on your diving mask. Because we're gonna tell you how you can dive into the hearts of your customers and figure out exactly how you can find your unique place in their hearts…

PS: Before we dive in… Remember to check out our newest free resource about growing our community from 0 to 60,000 ravings fans - and how you can do the same

We sent it to you in a separate email, so that you can easily find it when you need it.

Open their hearts (and their wallets)

We promised you from the beginning that this newsletter would be the most tactical and actionable in the DTC space.

So let's get tactical.

You have two ways of figuring out what your customers want:

A) Ask them

B) Read through hundreds or thousands of Amazon reviews and spot the patterns

The first one is simple and gives you the most accurate data on why they bought YOUR product specifically.

… but access to customers is a privilege if you don't have a big enough pool of customers yet.

And then, you gotta use method B. Here's how:

=> First thing you do is jump into Amazon and use any extractor tool to pull hundreds or thousands of reviews on different products in your category (for example, collagen)

=> Pull it all into a spreadsheet and do two things simultaneously.

=> Analyze the data yourself so that YOU understand which words they use, which problems they have, and how it's affecting them in their day-to-day life.

=> Ask ChatGPT to analyze the data for you too, and give you insights into the most commonly used words, the reasons that are mentioned the most, etc.

We want you to use BOTH ChatGPT + Your brain 🧠 is because we don't want you to rely on ChatGPT.

Your brain can see patterns that ChatGPT may not be able to. And ChatGPT can see patterns you may not be able to see too.

So use both…

"Please write my assignment for me."

The easiest person to fool is yourself…

You can convince yourself to do anything…

That's just how it is

Now - we're not suggesting that you're fooling your customers.

But…

We're saying that the best way to convince your customers to buy from you is to let them convince yourself.

"How exactly does that work? "- you may think.

Here's how:

One day, we were looking to write some new landing page copy for a Listicle. But we (Ash) were lazy. He didn't feel "in the mood" to write.

So we asked our community, what are the top 3 reasons why you bought this product from us?

… and we even spiced it up even more by giving the most-liked response a $100 gift card.

And what did we get?

A shit-ton of reasons why people bought our products and the problems they had before.

And guess what…

There is my landing page copy.

Copy a little bit here, add a little bit there - and off to the ads manager we go.

(PS: This listicle CRUSHES IT)

So what did we get for the $100?

1) Access to our customers' minds (which is probably more valuable than gold)

2) Free copywriting services

If you have a community, we strongly recommend trying this method in the coming week.

If you don't - then don't worry. We just released a complete walk-through of how you can build a community. Click here to get it

Quick break to say a big thank you to our sponsors who keep this newsletter free to the reader

If you haven’t been asleep the last year or so, you’ve probably heard that your brand needs a Mobile App

But what’s all the hype about?!

It’s simple. A Mobile App helps you create a stronger relationship with your customers, give them a better shopping experience - and ultimately lead to a higher LTV (A lot higher. In fact 2x higher for Obvi)

Which is what we all want, right?

Stop beating around the bush. The first step of a good retention strategy starts with a Mobile App.

Our preferred provider is TapCart, who’s offering you up to 2 months free if you mention that we sent you

PS: All sponsors that we recommend are companies we use ourselves at Obvi, and companies who we’ve seen great results with. We will never, and have never recommended a company we haven’t used ourselves

Now back to the newsletter

Damn, you're hot!

What's the temperature of your customers?

Ice-cold?

Luke-warm?

Hot like a freshly brewed coffee?

The reason why we're asking is that you need to know this very crucial piece of information whenever you're writing your ad or landing page copy.

Otherwise…

Your ad spend will go to waste

Your message will not resonate, and your customers will be pissed instead of impressed

… and the scariest part:

You will make $0

Not a fun situation… trust us

To prevent this, the first thing you need to do is think… hard

Think about the "temperature" of your customers and what their "stage of awareness" is.

Do they even know they have a problem?

Have they never heard your name?

Are they ready to pull out their credit cards the second they get a good deal?

You can use the image below to figure out their "stage of awareness" and then

Naturally, you'll have customers who are in different stages of awareness.

… and therefore, your job is to match them at their level.

Meaning… You need to show different messages to different customers.

And that, my friends, requires A TON of work.

But if you nail it - it'll be worth every second of time poured into it.

Tool of the week

Last week, we spoke to a friend of ours - who was sick and tired of chasing down his bookkeeper for updated financials.

Like, literally sick and tired of it.

Not only because he had to waste time and energy on a low-leverage task (chasing the bookkeeper) but also because he didn’t know how his cashflow situation were and whether he could order more product before getting the books updated.

We know a lot of you are in similar situation - which is why we want to recommend you the same tool we recommended to him.

Namely, Finaloop.

Finaloop fires your bookkeeper for you and gives you clean, always-up-to-date, and 100% automated books… every day of the week.

This way, you can know everything from your profit, margins, and cashflow situation by the day and hour. It’s been a game-changer for Obvi, and we’re confident it will be for you too.

Head over to Finaloop and try a 14-day free trial + get 3 months of free catchup on your P&L.

Yo - thank you for reading along

If you made it this far..

Then just know that we appreciate you.

We hope you enjoyed this one and will come back on Wednesday.

All the best,
Ron & Ash
